Block Editor Symbol Editor

Overview: Working with Block & Symbol Editor Files

The Block and Symbol Editors allow you to work with files to create and edit schematics, block diagrams, and symbols, and to create and update design files.

The Block Editor allows you to create and edit Block Design Files (.bdf) and open MAX+PLUS® II Graphic Design Files (.gdf). However, if you use a DOS symbol in a GDF, update the symbol first with the Update Symbol or Block command (Edit menu). With the Block Editor, you can create a new design file, or you can open a design file from an opened block in the Block Editor file. You can create a new Block Symbol File (.bsf) or an AHDL Include File (.inc) for the open Block Editor file. You can analyze the current Block Editor file to check for basic errors. In the Block Editor, you can update a symbol or block, or use the MegaWizard® Plug-In Manager to edit an existing megafunction or create a new one. The Block Editor allows you to enlarge the file with its unique scrolling.

The Symbol Editor allows you to create and edit Block Symbol Files (.bsf) and open MAX+PLUS II Symbol Files (.sym). With the Symbol Editor, you can edit the selected symbol. You can also snap the symbol to the grid. In both the Symbol Editor and the Block Editor, you can show, hide, and specify the spacing of the guidelines, which are dotted horizontal and vertical lines that provide a visual reference for entering, moving, and editing objects.
