 Electronic Design

Food service control system. Project included system definition, analog and digital design (including spice simulations), thermal analysis (including heat sink design), sensor and control interfaces, CAN network, PCB layout, rush prototyping, conformance testing, manufacturing hand-off and on-going customer product support.

 
Automotive fuel control system. Project included defect analysis of original product; defect analysis; conceptual design; digital, analog, software and PCB design; potting compound research; standards research; cabling design; conform to QS-9000 requirements; full suite of conformance tests, manufacturing hand-off and on-going product support.

 
931 MHz FLEX paging receiver. Project included conceptional design such as selection of RF bands, FCC licensing, paging protocol and receiver chip technologies. Design and test of receiver system software (based on Motorola FLEX modulation system), patent research, system design and 8051 assembly and 'C' application software. Prepared for manufacturing at Taiwanese assembly plant.

 
VXIbus interface adapter with SCSI disk controller. Project included an interface module between Motorola MVME1600 CPU module and VXIbus backplane; SCSI disk controller and interface; analysis of backplane extender concept (requiring extensive modeling of the VXIbus backplane); all electronics necessary to integrate as a slot 0 VXIbus controller; logic design for FPGA.

 
Encryption interface for triple DES encryption board. Project included logic design for a programmable device and technical reference manual.

  Sensors

 
Inductive proximity sensor. Project included analysis of electrical properties of metals, parts selection, analog circuit design, rush prototyping, detailed technical reference manual, calibration procedures, manufacturing hand-off and on-going product support.

 
Aircraft wing ice detection system. Project included analog and digital hardware design for signal interface unit; design of numerous sensor interfaces, including a novel low cost AM radio (RF) type spectrum analyzer; patent research; significant software design including a large test system for winter evaluation at the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport....Brrrrrrrr.

 
LIDAR (LIght raDAR). Used for position measurement over distances greater than 40 meters. Project included selection of 5 mW infrared laser; design of detector and associated electronics; optics and mechanical design. Created a clever circuit for pulse measurement down to 60 picoseconds.

 
 Food service weigh scale sensor. Project included analog circuit design (including spice simulations), analog low-pass filter, evaluation and integration of hall sensor, ALNICO 5 & 8 permanent magnet designs, magnetic circuits, PCB layout for low noise operation, rush prototyping, conformance testing, manufacturing hand-off and on-going customer product support.

 
Wide area position sensor (WAPS). Used for position measurement to +/- 2" over 1.5 mi radius. Project included: conceptual design of radiolocation device using 900 MHz spread spectrum methodology; patent research; design novel method of pulse measurement down to 60 ps., power system and charger using sealed lead-acid batteries; 'C' and assembly language software; custom circuit using FPGA; design of mechanical package; build and test prototypes.

   IP Cores and System-on-Chip (SoC)

 
Xilinx Virtex II Pro / RocketIO MGT. Project included definition of multi-gigabit serial link using the Xilinx Virtex II Pro / RocketIO MGT transceiver. Implementation of custom protocol engine using the Xilinx Aurora core.

 
 VMEbus to PCI Data bridge System-on-Chip for FPGA. Project included definition of high level architecture, integration of VMEbus interface cores using the Silicore VMEcore(tm) technology, logic design, VHDL coding, integration of a third party PCI core interface onto FPGA, final in-circuit test and creation of a technical reference manual.

 
Microprocessor System-on-Chip (SLC1657). Project included conceptual design, enlargement of memory banks, VHDL coding, integration of the device on Agere, Altera and Xilinx FPGA devices, circuit design of three evaluation boards, assembly and 'C' language software development and modification of Technical Reference Manual.

 
VMEbus to TMS320C53/4 data bridge System-on-Chip for FPGA. Project included the conceptual design and implementation of a bridge core system for FPGA; technical reference manual.

 
VMEbus interface board for hydraulic valve control. Project included modification of FPGA based VMEbus interface System-on-Chip; analog and digital circuit design; product test; development of DSP code (native DSP and 'C'); technical reference manual; engineering conformance test; manufacturing tester.

 
VMEbus interface board for A/D conversion. Project included modification of FPGA based VMEbus interface System-on-Chip; analog and digital circuit design; product test; development of DSP code (native DSP and 'C'); technical reference manual; engineering conformance test; manufacturing tester.

Test Fixturing

Manufacturing test fixture for fuel control system. Project included analysis of test requirements; system integration and 'C' software development; monitor test for 4 months; write final reports.

Manufacturing test fixture for op-amp matching. Project included conceptual design, software design, system integration and correlation of results. Fixture varies temperature of op-amps, characterizes offset and gain; bins and matches parts.

Manufacturing test fixture for automotive control. Project included conceptual design, analog and digital electronic design, software design, PCB layout, cabling design, rush fabrication and analysis of defect sensitivity.

 
Manufacturing test fixture for magnetostrictive acoustical waveguide. Project included conceptual design (including physical properties of metals); analog and digital circuit design; printed circuit board design; substantial mechanical design; write 'C' language software; integrate onto manufacturing floor; train operators on-site.
