Wade Peterson Transfers WISHBONE Stewardship to Richard Herveille of OpenCores

August 12, 2002 - Minneapolis, MN USA. Wade Peterson of Silicore Corporation announced today that he is transferring stewardship of the WISHBONE System-on-Chip (SoC) Interconnection Architecture for Portable IP Cores. Richard Herveille of the OpenCores organization was named as the new Steward. As the WISHBONE Steward, Mr. Herveille will be responsible for maintaining the WISHBONE specification.

Peterson said: "Richard has done an outstanding job as the OpenCores liaison to Silicore. I've worked with him for some time now, and know that he'll do a great job".

When asked why he made the move, Peterson responded: "I've been working on this since 1996, and it's about time to bring some fresh ideas into this thing. There have also been some great new proposals from the OpenCores community lately, and I would definitely like to see them added to the specification. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to work on it right now. The most expedient way to get things moving is for Richard to take over. He's got a lot of experience with this already, and can hit the ground running. I will continue to support Richard in whatever way I can to make this is a smooth transition. This is also a great opportunity for the OpenCores organization because it gives them more direct influence over the specification".

The WISHBONE interconnect is a portable and flexible interface for use with semiconductor chips. It defines a common, logical interface between sections of the chip and allows them to communicate better. These sections, known as 'cores', can be developed and tested independently and later combined to form a complete System-on-Chip. Currently, WISHBONE is the only SoC specification in the public domain. All other methodologies are proprietary.

The OpenCores organization fosters the development of open IP cores in a way that is similar to the Linux software distribution model, which uses the General Public License.
