We have seen in the previous module what an FPGA is, explored its structure, and outlined the steps involved in the FPGA design flow. You should be familiar with the term synthesis and its place within the flow, and you should have learned some techniques and processes the synthesis tool performs as a design is optimized.

In this module we will introduce Mentor Graphics' next generation synthesis tool, Precision Synthesis.

We will start by first introducing the main features of the Precision Synthesis tool. After that we will introduce the Precision Synthesis User Interface and become familiar with it. Finally, we will take a quick look at the Place and Route integration in Precision Synthesis, which we will explore in more detail in Module 4.
